Before the 1st note of their 2006 debut album together, Feeling Good, was even recorded, Randy Crawford and Joe Sample knew that they would have to do a second one. And given their shared history of a musical culture rich in gospel, jazz and rhythm and blues it seemed natural that their second album would pull from the bluesier side of that culture.
Amongst the tracks on the new album are versions of the Edith Piaf 'No Regrets' 'Everyday I Have The Blues', originally recorded by The Count Basie Orchestra. 'Respect Yourself', 'Just One Smile' originally from 'Dusty In Memphis' album, and 'Starting All Over Again'.
Randy and Joe first met over 30 years ago. 3 years later Joe wrote 'Street Life' for Randy followed by 'Someday I'll Fly Away', 'Danceland', 'When Your Life Was Low' all additional hits for Randy over the years.

There are many influences which give this Denton based band their own unique sound, which would best be described as hard-driving country. Live performances by the Mo Robson Band will definitely bring a crowd to its feet, keep a dance floor packed and leave the crowd wanting more.

Over the last seven years the MRB has been consistently touring Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, playing clubs, festivals/fairs and rodeos, as well as corporate and private functions. They have performed with national, regional and local acts of various genres.

The Mo Robson Band is made up Mo Robson, Jake Jackson, Kevin Poe, and Kevin Miller. Robson and Jackson started the band in December of 1999. In March 2000 the duo began playing acoustic shows at various venues around Dallas. A few weeks later the band found a drummer and bass player to form a full band. After several months of performing, the original bass player was asked to leave and was replaced on Labor Day 2000 by Kevin Poe. In April of 2001, the bands drummer decided to move on to other ventures, and was replaced by long time friend Kevin Miller. The addition of Miller was the last and the members have played every show together since.

Subtitled and themed "chilled beats from the Cape of Good Hope,' this is the third wondrously infectious volume in an exciting series of introductions to the music of the South African and European dance scenes. Although the primary purpose of this 13-track collection is to expose the uninitiated to the stunning mix of cool grooves, ambience and trippy adventure inherent in both cultures, the album also boasts a big star who certainly boosted its commercial prospects. The sparsely arranged, easy thumping soul track "Your Love Is Mine" (credited to "New Mastersounds") was written and sung by a then-unknown Corinne Bailey Rae, who was a member of that group. South African born compilation producer Andrew Mitchley was so enamored of the track that he included two versions, the original, gospel-inflected take and the thicker groove-driven "Fred Everything Mix". Rae's soothing, jazzy inflections vibe perfectly with the rest of the material here from artists like Prime Circle (whose lead singer is a passionate and soulful Sting influenced artist), Goldfish, Mint Royale (who adds strings and chill ambience), Samantha James (whose sound is best described as "low-key disco") and the swinging Euro-jazz group JoJo Effect, which does a fascinating lounge version of "The Beat Goes On.." ~ Review by Jonathan Widran ~

With its fourth studio outing, OVERCOME, the Massachusetts-based metalcore act All That Remains turns a page by replacing longtime producer Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) with Jason Suecof, who is best known for his work with Trivium. The result is a more dynamic album that ranges from the pounding opener, "Before the Damned," to the surprisingly sensitive closing ballad, "Believe in Nothing."

Alternative Press (p.156) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "'Forever In Your Hands,' 'Chiron' and 'Believe In Nothing' display the band's ability to push themselves beyond the well-trod metal frontier, incorporating acoustic guitar flamenco riffs and head-scratching off-time rhythms."

Overcome is the fourth studio album by metalcore band, All That Remains. It was released on September 16, 2008.

On July 21, 2008, two tracks from the new album - Before the Damned and Relinquish - made their debut on the band's MySpace profile. Commenting on the tracks, vocalist Philip Labonte stated, "This represents the heavier side of ATR. Last time we did this we put up 'The Weak Willed' and we feel like it's a bit of a tradition to really kick you in the nuts when we first show off new stuff! So here is the heaviest stuff we came up with for 'Overcome.'" Chiron made its debut on August 11, 2008 on the band's MySpace. The song is the first single from the album, with a behind-the-scenes shoot up and the official music video up on YouTube.

Two of the album's tracks, "Two Weeks," and "Chiron," were made available as downloadable content for Rock Band on September 9, 2008. The tracks are exclusive to Rock Band for one week before the album is released.

The song "Two Weeks" was added to the band's MySpace page on September 08, 2008 to help promote the release of the song pack on Rock Band. It will be the album's second single with a video being filmed for it.

The album debuted at #16 on the Billboard 200.

And what a journey it is.

Tracks such as "Throwin' It Down” (featuring Darren Rahn) and "One on One” announce the former hoopster is back on the court. The best track, surprisingly enough, is Keith's rendition of the Barry White classic "Never Gonna Give You Up.” Keith sounds like a true Barry White protege. The collaboration covers Tisdale's quota to include at least one old-school song on his albums. Tisdale's reinvigoration and sense of purpose is felt from beginning to end, but most of all, Tisdale says on "Rebound,” "I Hope You Feel It Too.”

Note from yLe: Since this release and review, Tisdale recently lost a leg due to the bone cancer. He was one great hoops player for Oklahoma University and had a 12-season professional career with the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns.

Emmitt is well-known as a terrific mandolinist, and here he's joined by folks like Chris Pandolfi and Andy Hall of the Infamous Stringdusters, Tim O'Brien, Allison Brown, Darrell Scott, Stuart Duncan, and a number of others. It would be practically shocking if all these people could gather in one room and not come out with a great record. In fact, the album is an excellent effort from Emmitt and his numerous collaborators.

In addition to the great bluegrass influence of much of the record, there's also the cooled-out reggae rhythm of "Beat of the World", where Duncan's fiddle and Emmitt's mandolin marry the island groove with a little down home country, before Tyler Grant's electric guitar drives it home. There's also the Cajun-infused country song "Get 'er Rolling", which is one of the disc's best highlights. It's this level of fusion that keeps the record interesting.

Jamgrass fans will appreciate the long Grateful Dead-esque jam at the tail end of "Take the Highway", which shows clear influence from the classic bluegrass-rock jam band. Folks who appreciate Emmitt's incredible instrumental skills will appreciate his duetting with Ronnie McCoury on "Cloud City", one of the finest moments on the record.

Emmitt has, indeed, been on a long road since his career began more than two decades ago. Long Road is an excellent testament to the grace and musicianship he's provided throughout his career.

Born June 2nd 1984 in Hull, Quebec (Canada), Mike Larock never really had it easy. Like many artists, Mike had a rough life. His father was a musician but not the most respected.

Mike was put in a foster home when he was 9 due to his Mother's drug addiction. When Mike was able to return to his mother at age 10, she gave him a acoustic guitar as a welcome home present. She considered this the perfect gift due to the fact that Mike was always a singer since a tender age and music seemed to be a real passion for him.

Later in life, Mike received an e-mail invitation for a band contest in Beloeil, Quebec. In the spring of 2007, Marc-Andre Duguay, Mike Bilodeau, John Charette and Stefan accompanied Mike Larock at his first competition ever. Mike, at the audition show finished in first place and moved on to the semi-finals. He then won first place again and moved on to the finals. He competed all in all against 80 very talented bands and finished second place which won him $500 cash, a trophy to hold on to for life and he opened the show for “Les cowboys fringants (top selling artists in Quebec) on August 11, 2007 at the Festival de Beloeil in front of more than 25,000 people.

Mike has gone from a young confused musician to a professional. His matchless and dominant voice will make you ask for more every time. “To me music is what the world could never go without; everything I do now is for music. It is truly my passion and my biggest desire. I’ve worked so hard to get where I am, but I could of never of done it without Chap, John and Stefan who have been there since day one. All I want is to do what I love the most, and hopefully inspire others as well.”

Released the week of B.B. King's 80th birthday, 80 is a star-studded duets album, the first B.B. released since 1997's Deuces Wild. It was recorded in a variety of locations in the spring of 2005 and features a variety of guest artists, ranging from the familiar (Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Bobby Bland) to the unsurprising (Billy Gibbons, Mark Knopfler, Elton John, Sheryl Crow) to the frankly bewildering (John Mayer, Daryl Hall, Gloria Estefan). Unfortunately, the material isn't quite as wide-ranging - in fact, it leans toward the overly familiar, with a pleasant, thoroughly bland version of "The Thrill Is Gone" with Eric Clapton sadly living up to its title. There are a couple other bum tracks - most notably the turgid slow blues "There Must Be a Better World Somewhere," which drags on for an interminable seven minutes, or a full six minutes longer than needed to prove that sultry blues is not Gloria Estefan's forte - but for the most part, 80 plays better than it reads on paper. Most of it is solid, straight-ahead big band blues, firmly within B.B.'s comfort zone and sounding appropriately comfortable - not as in boring, but warm, relaxed, and friendly, whether he's playing with old friends like Bobby Bland or with John Mayer, who acquits himself well as a guitarist, even if his voice is overwhelmed by B.B.'s towering presence. There are couple of nice little surprises along the way, such as how "Ain't Nobody Home" with Daryl Hall works up a nice soulful groove or how Sheryl Crow reveals that she's a convincing blues singer (there are also some unpleasant surprises, as on "Tired of Your Jive," an otherwise fine track that's derailed by the realization that Billy Gibbons' voice has been torn to shreds, leaving a phlegmy mess behind), but the best moments come from the old guard of the British Invasion. Roger Daltrey proves that he's singing better than ever with "Never Make Your Move Too Soon," Elton John and his house band really cook on a terrific "Rock This House," but it's Van Morrison who steals the show with "Early in the Morning," a clean but down-and-dirty version of the standard. It's the best thing here, but it's unfortunate that it kicks off the album, since it suggests that this might be a harder-hitting blues album than normal from B.B. It's not - it's a slick, stylish, professional record, one that's actually a little more straightforward than he's been at any time since, well, Deuces Wild. Coming after some truly interesting records over the last few years, the predictability of 80 is a bit of a disappointment, but there's still a bunch of good stuff to hear, and, no matter how you look at it, for B.B. to be recording and still sounding vital at 80 is a remarkable thing even if the album that commemorates his birthday falls short of the remarkable itself. ~ Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine ~

Across the Universe is a 2007 musical film directed by Julie Taymor. It was released in the United States on October 12, 2007. The script is based on an original story credited to Taymor, Dick Clement, and Ian La Frenais that incorporates 33 compositions written by members of The Beatles. The plot relates the interweaving stories of several characters set against the backdrop of the turbulent 1960s. The arc of the storyline spans from the early innocent part of the decade to the politically-charged later years of the decade. The film's end credits identify a total of thirty-three separate Beatles compositions featured in the film, either in their entirety or in part. All of these songs were written between 1963 and 1970 by the members of The Beatles (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr) and recorded by The Beatles. Twenty-nine of them are compositions that are officially credited to the songwriting partnership of Lennon/McCartney. Three are credited to George Harrison. One title ("Flying") is a 1967 composition credited to all four members of the Beatles (Lennon-McCartney-Harrison-Starr). Interscope Records has released three variations of soundtrack albums from the film — a standard edition and two deluxe editions. The standard edition contains 16 tracks from the film soundtrack, although "Let It Be" is shortened, missing the third verse. The first version of the deluxe edition features 31 tracks — all of the vocal performances and one of the three instrumental tracks. In the US this 31-track version is available solely at the Best Buy retail chain and in a digital version via iTunes, while in Europe it is available at other retail outlets. A second version of the deluxe edition is available at other retail outlets and digital download suppliers. The second version differs from the 31-track version in that it omits two tracks ("Why Don't We Do It On The Road?" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)"). The song "It Won't Be Long" was released as a single on iTunes on September 11, 2007. On October 15, 2007 – October 17, 2007, and again on October 22, 2007 – October 23, 2007, the 31-track deluxe edition was the #1 downloaded album on iTunes. The soundtrack includes seven songs from The Beatles (also known as The White Album), five from Magical Mystery Tour, five from Abbey Road, four from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, three from With The Beatles, two from A Hard Day's Night, two from Let It Be, one from Help!, one from Rubber Soul, and three other singles.

The course of events was the Grateful Dead's assorted family, friends and fellow Pranksters -- "Pyramidiots" of various origins -- descent upon Egypt's Nile Valley that culminated in three legendary concerts performed at the foot of the Great Pyramid in Gizah. A dramatic vocalist who was born in France but sings in impeccable and unaccented English, Elisabeth Kontomanou is best known in Europe as both a singer and an actress. She has visited New York regularly and along the way has worked with Michel Legrand, Mike Stern, Toots Thielemans, and Jean-Michel Pilc, among others. Kontomanou has a powerful voice and is a fine jazz singer. On Back to My Groove, she performs Gustav Karlström's inventive arrangements to nine of her songs and two numbers from her sidemen. In addition to her impressive singing and the fresh material, some of which sounds like it could have been a standard in the '60s or '70s, Back to My Groove is of strong interest due to the instrumentation. Most selections utilize not only a rhythm section but the Quatuor Elysee String Quartet, a few horns (soprano saxophonist Sam Newsome is well featured) and a harpist. While there are some thoughtful performances, it is the more high-powered pieces, which include some challenging writing for the strings, that are of the greatest interest. Kontomanou gives one the impression that she could sing anything, making Back to My Groove a strong introduction to her music.

Along Came a Spider is Alice Cooper's 25th studio album, which follows his 2005 studio album Dirty Diamonds. It was released on July 28th 2008 in Europe and on July 29th in North America through Steamhammer Records/SPV GmbH and is Cooper's highest charting album since 1991's Hey Stoopid, charting at #53 in the US and #31 in the UK. The album had originally been marked for release in 2007, but problems with producer scheduling and a busy touring schedule caused it to be delayed a year. A number of songs and demos for the album were prepared and short listed during 2007, and further recording and writing work took place on the album in February 2008. In an interview with Billboard Cooper stated that the album was 75% done as of April 18th, 2008. Slash and Ozzy Osbourne perform as guests on two tracks on the album.

Gianluigi Trovesi has doubtlessly been influenced by African-American musicians from Armstrong and Ellington to Bird and Ornette. Yet the improvisational style coined in America is just one of many musical idioms the eclectic Trovesi has collected and combined during the course of his career. One also hears in his writing and playing influences ranging from Gregorian chants to Baroque fugues, from Bel Canto arias to the traditional dances and folk songs of his native Bergamo region, from the cherished brass band legacy that began bringing grand opera to the Italian masses to the work of 20th-century innovators like Stravinsky, Bartók and Zappa.
"Dedalo", an outstanding collaboration between Trovesi and Germany's renowned WDR Big Band, features brilliantly orchestrated and executed versions of Trovesi "classics" that were previously recorded in smaller formations. Although Trovesi spent 15 years as a member of the RAI Radio Big Band in Milan, this project is the first time that he arranged and directed music for an ensemble featuring the "classic" big band instrumentation. The WDR Big Band's tight ensemble playing on this recording makes it clear why an invitation to perform with them is one of the most coveted opportunities available on the international jazz scene today. Taking full advantage of the instrumental resources at their disposal, Gianluigi Trovesi, Corrado Guarino and Fulvio Maras wrote lush arrangements that mine the rich harmonic and melodic nuances that were just waiting inside Trovesi's compositions to be ingeniously developed.

Starflowers is the fascinating debut recording from Norwegian vocalist and kantele player Sinikka Langeland. The album is a brilliant confluence of folk music, sung poetry and Nordic improvisation. A folk singer from Finnskogen, Norway's `Finnish forest' land, Langeland explores in her work the relationship between man and nature. All of the texts on the album are derived from the poetry of Hans Børli (1918-89), a lumberjack whose poetry is alive with his experiences of the Norwegian forests. On Starflowers, Sinikka is joined by four fellow Scandinavians: Norway's Arve Henriksen (trumpet) and Trygve Seim (saxophones), Sweden's Anders Jormin (double-bass) and Finland's Markku Ounaskari (percussion). Henriksen, Seim and Jormin are veterans of numerous ECM jazz recordings. Born in 1961 to a Norwegian father and Finnish mother, Sinikka Langeland has drawn upon both sides of her cultural heritage. The instrument she plays is Finnish, a 39 string kantele or `table harp.' After growing up around classical music, Sinikka became interested in folk music in her teens and at age 20 began researching rune songs, incantations, old melodies from Finland and Karelia, as well as little known medieval ballads and religious folk songs. Since the early 1990s, she has been working and recording with jazz musicians as part of her ensembles.

John Pizzarelli salutes composer Richard Rodgers with this songbook including a dozen of his works. The vocalist/guitarist is accompanied by his trio, with Larry Fuller replacing Ray Kennedy, bassist Martin Pizzarelli, and drummer Tony Tedesco. Pizzarelli adds a personal touch to “;I Like to Recognize the Tune”; by altering Lorenz Hart's lyrics a bit, while also scatting up a storm in unison with his guitar. Bucky Pizzarelli is an added guest and soloist for “;It's Easy to Remember”; an intimate duet with the vocalist playing rhythm. Cesar Camargo Mariano takes over at the piano for the breezy bossa nova setting of “;Happy Talk”; Arranger Don Sebesky wrote the charts for the six tracks and a quartet of brass and reeds, highlighted by the snappy scoring of “;The Lady Is a Tramp”; recalling Pizzarelli's previous Telarc salute to Frank Sinatra (Dear Mr. Sinatra, in which he trades fours scatting with each of the horns). This release is a little short in the CD era, clocking in at just over 43 minutes, but there's never a dull moment.

The year 2008 might have been a slightly early point in time to release expanded editions of the first several Radiohead albums, so Capitol greased the reissue pipeline with The Best Of, a 17-track disc with a track list that is as debatable as any other. The idea of squeezing the band's first six albums into something resembling a definitive one-disc introduction seems almost as wise as presenting A Collection of Great Dance Songs (incidentally a Capitol release) as the one true and useful introduction to Pink Floyd, but to be more fair, the disc does cover just about all of the basics: all the singles and emphasis tracks, from Pablo Honey's "Creep" through Hail to the Thief's "2+2=5," along with a small assortment of the band's better-known album cuts. One track apiece comes from Pablo Honey (1993) and Amnesiac (2001); three are from Kid A (2000), four are from OK Computer (1997), and six are off The Bends (1995). The primary problem, of course, is that Radiohead are much more an albums band than a singles band, especially from OK Computer onward, so a natural reflex for someone who has valued the band since The Bends is to shriek in mild agony; in principle, a best-of Radiohead compilation is similar to a DVD containing somewhat thoughtfully picked scenes from films made by a specific director. For a very casual fan who has absolutely no interest in exploring beyond the songs he or she heard on the radio or through MTV and the like, this set will do (it has "Creep" and half of The Bends, after all, and then a bunch of "the weird stuff"), but otherwise it clearly serves a purpose more meaningful for the label than anyone else.

New Morning is the 11th studio album by Bob Dylan, released by Columbia Records in 1970. Coming only four months after the controversial Self Portrait, the more concise and immediate New Morning won a much warmer reception from fans and critics. Most welcome was the return of Dylan's more familiar, nasally singing voice, which had not appeared on record since John Wesley Harding in 1967 (he had taken on an affected country croon since then.) In retrospect, the album has come to be viewed as one of the artist's lesser successes, especially following the release of Blood on the Tracks in 1975, often seen as a more full return-to-form. It reached #7 in the U.S., quickly going gold, and gave Bob Dylan his 6th UK #1 album. The album's most successful song from a commercial perspective is probably "If Not For You," which was covered by George Harrison, who had played guitar on a version of the song not released until 1991's Bootleg Series Volume 2, and was also an international hit for Olivia Newton-John in 1971. The song was also included in Dylanesque from Bryan Ferry

ABOUT THIS COLLECTION
As a follow-up on last years "Record of the Year" collection I now present to you "100 Great Recordings" as featured in the 2008 edition of the well renowned Gramophone Classical Music Guide. I am well aware of the fact that every person has his own taste about classical music and therefore such a collection of albums doesn't nessesarily represent the best of the best in everybody's opinion. However these recordings has been handpicked by some of classical music's most respected experts and leading critics. As such this collection stands out as the ultimate way for the beginner to venture into the world of classical music and start a private collection of his own. It is my hope that you will all enjoy and appreciate these masterworks as much as I have done.

FILES, SCANS AND FOLDERS
I have collected these recordings through quite a long time. As far as it has been humanly possible I have provided the exact publication mentioned in The Gramophone Classical Music Guide. A few albums however has proved so difficult to get my hands on that I've had to settle for another publication from the same label, featuring the very same recording with the same performers, recorded on the same date etc. Most CD's has been ripped by myself, but some has been downloaded from other sources and has of course been ripped by someone else. I haven't had time to listen through every single CD so should you find a flaw, a jitter or any other kind of error that EAC did somehow not detect, then please don't hesitate to let me know. The available scans has been collected from various sources but the majority has been scanned by myself in 300 dpi. If you have scans of better quality than the ones included please send them to me in a private message so that I can integrate them into the project. As the foldernames inside the rar-files are a bit long I recommend you to extract them somewhere in the root of your system like C:\ or simular.

The War of the Worlds stars Richard Burton as the narrator-protagonist, Justin Hayward (of The Moody Blues), Phil Lynott, Julie Covington, David Essex and Chris Thompson.
"Forever Autumn", "The Eve of the War", "Thunder Child", and "The Spirit of Man" are the most recognised individual songs on the album. "Forever Autumn" was a UK Top 5 single, sung by Justin Hayward. The album itself spent 290 weeks in the UK album charts. It was in the top 10 in 22 countries and reached #1 in 11 countries.
Most of the lyrics on the album were written by former Elton John lyricist Gary Osborne. The album was recorded on 48 tracks at Advision Studio, London.
The repetition of "Ulla!", the cry made by the Martians, and certain musical refrains throughout the musical act as leitmotifs.
The official album comes with several paintings by Peter Goodfellow, Geoff Taylor and Michael Trim that help to illustrate the story from beginning to end.
Despite being a self-contained progressive rock album in its own right, rather than an accompaniment to a film or show, the album is frequently and erroneously to be found in the "Soundtracks" section of record shops.

Ry Cooder is a master class in American music. "I, ftathead" is a part of Cooder's California Trilogy along with Chavez Ravine and My Name is Buddy. The other two are great in their own right but this one excels at very fine guitar work which drew us to Ry Cooder in the first place. The songs and lyrics are clever and wacky at times but the great vocal inflections and intonations give a splashing of personality that's entertaining and fun to listen to. Cooder gets right down into his subject matter be it a dialogue with his Mexican mechanic about getting his Cadillac back or a country-light whimsy about a steel guitar heaven. The last song called Little Trona Girl may not be too fancy with words but the female vocalist is perfect as is the fantastic instrumentation. The first song, Waitin' for Some Girl, however is what sucks you in, it's great. Great stuff here, it takes you back when times were a whole lot less complicated.

Pure masterpiece with road movie feeling and a true piece of art with lotta conotations from musical history of one lost time. Unbeliveable record, most likely the best of Cooder's, If that can possibly be said. Ry created a musical story which goes beyond the digital era, something like as If this was his first or last album.

As Oliver Nelson is known primarily as a big band leader and arranger, he is lesser known as a saxophonist and organizer of small ensembles. Blues and the Abstract Truth is his triumph as a musician for the aspects of not only defining the sound of an era with his all-time classic "Stolen Moments," but on this recording, assembling one of the most potent modern jazz sextets ever. Lead trumpeter Freddie Hubbard is at his peak of performance, while alto saxophonists Nelson and Eric Dolphy (Nelson doubling on tenor) team to form an unlikely union that was simmered to perfection. Bill Evans (piano), Paul Chambers (bass), and Roy Haynes (drums) can do no wrong as a rhythm section. "Stolen Moments" really needs no comments, as its undisputable beauty shines through in a three-part horn harmony fronting Hubbard's lead melody. It's a thing of beauty that is more timeless as the years pass. The "Blues" aspect is best heard on "Yearnin'," a stylish, swinging, and swaying downhearted piece that is a bluesy as Evans would ever be. Both "Blues" and "Abstract Truth" combine for the darker "Teenie's Blues," a feature for Nelson and Dolphy's alto saxes, Dolphy assertive in stepping forth with his distinctive, angular, dramatic, fractured, brittle voice that marks him a maverick. Then there's "Hoedown," which has always been the black sheep of this collection with its country flavor and stereo separated upper and lower horn in snappy call-and-response barking. As surging and searing hard boppers respectively, "Cascades" and "Butch & Butch" again remind you of the era of the early '60s when this music was king, and why Hubbard was so revered as a young master of the idiom. This CD is a must buy for all jazz collectors, and a Top Ten-Fifty favorite for many.

Danger High Voltage is significant in two respects: It is the first release from the Two and Four Recording Company, and it marks the reformation of the George Coleman Octet, which hadn't recorded since its debut in 1977. The horn section consists of Coleman and special guest Ned Otter on tenor saxes, Jim Rotondi on trumpet, Adam Brenner on alto, and Gary Smulyan on baritone.

The rhythm section is anchored by two veterans, pianist Harold Mabern and bassist Ray Drummond, along with drummer George Coleman, Jr. and percussionist Daniel Sadownick. Beginning with Coleman's bouncy arrangement of Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely," the little big band goes on to feature its various members. Adam Brenner shines on fellow altoist Bobby Watson's hard-bopping "Conservation," while Jim Rotondi is given the floor on the lovely ballad "Portrait of Jennie," again arranged by Coleman. Ned Otter takes center stage on Frank Foster's classic waltz "Simone" and his own 4/4 arrangement of the great standard "Tenderly." In general, Otter's tone is less round and his rhythmic approach a bit less focused than Coleman's. To close the album, the group presents Bill Lee's Latin arrangement of Consuela Lee's "Follow Me" and, finally, Coleman's original "Pretty Blues." Because there are so many other players present, one shouldn't look to this record for a comprehensive survey of Coleman's tenor abilities. Throughout his career with the Nice, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and as a solo artist, Keith Emerson has proven himself perhaps the greatest, most technically accomplished keyboardist in rock history. For all his reputation as an innovator and master of classically influenced rock, Emerson began his career playing R&B; the Nice got their first big break backing soul singer P.P. Arnold in 1967. Independently of Arnold, the Nice carved out a niche in the fledgling prog rock movement, with Emerson's classical flourishes and flamboyant showmanship (flinging knives at his keyboard, etc.) leading the way. After the Nice's dissolution, Emerson fleshed out his musical ideas to their fullest with Emerson, Lake & Palmer, which debuted in 1970 and had a series of highly successful albums throughout the decade. Emerson made his solo debut in 1976 with the single "Honky Tonk Train Blues," which hit the U.K. Top 30, but did not pursue a solo career in earnest until after ELP's 1980 breakup. Emerson first scored the films The Inferno (1980) and Nighthawks (1981), but did not return until 1985, when he released Honky. 1986 found Emerson participating in a revamped ELP -- this time with drummer Cozy Powell -- but still finding time to record the solo LP Murderock. In 1987, Emerson released Harmageddon/China Free Fall, and the following year, he undertook a project with Carl P
