..Why mono? Two reasons. First, pop music in stereo was still a novelty through most of the 60s. Radio was dominated by single-channel AM, and the young people who bought LPs were far more likely to have a mono record player as a sound source. Given their audience and the technology of the time, for much of the Beatles' run, the band themselves considered the mono mix as the "real" version of the record and devoted more of their attention to it. Mono mixes were prepared first with the involvement of the band, and in some cases, George Martin and EMI engineers completed stereo remixes of the albums later, after the group had left the studio. So mono, first off, presumably hews closer to the intentions of the Beatles themselves. It's what the Beatles had in mind, their vision of the records. Secondly,...

since the mono and stereo mixing sessions happened at different times, there are differences between the two versions, not just in the balance of the sound but also in the actual content...

Finally! After a nearly 23-year wait, the Beatles are at long last getting the treatment they’ve always deserved. The most anticipated catalog reissues in music history arrive on 9/9/09 and feature the pristine remastering that fans have craved since being subject to the highly inferior, much-maligned release of the British quartet’s records on CD in 1987.
This time around, proper care and a painstaking series of steps were taken to ensure that music lovers would hear the Fab Four in all their glory. With EMI’s legendary Abbey Road Studios providing the backdrop, the four-year restoration process combined veteran expertise, state-of-the-art equipment, vintage studio gear, and rigorous testing to net what is without doubt the highest fidelity possible—and authentic, jaw-dropping sound guaranteed to rival the original LPs...

Allmusic.com rating 5 out of of 5 Stars

"…it obsoletes the original in almost every way…When you hear the new reissue, even if you've heard the original 100 times since it first came out, which would easily be me, you will almost jump out of your seat when you hear these familiar elements move from the shadows to the foreground…Astral Weeks, one of the great records of the rock era, is destined to become one of the great reissues of the post-CD/analog revival era." - Michael Fremer, Musicangle.com

1968's "Astral Weeks" remains not only Morrison's masterpiece, but one of the greatest records ever made. A haunting, deeply personal collection of impressionistic folk styled epics recorded by an all star jazz backing unit, its poetic complexity earned critical raves but made only a minimal commercial impact.

Pls check Michael Fremer's enthusiatic review of this great re-issue:

Music: 11/11 | Sound: 10/11

Whether it's one of your favorite albums or you've never heard it, Astral Weeks belongs in any rock lover's record collection (even if it's not really a rock record) and this reissue is (or will be) the one to have!

Black Sabbath - Paranoid [US 1st pressing 24bit-96kHz Vinyl]

paranoid-front

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
1970 | Heavy Metal | Vinyl rip (24bit-96kHz) in FLAC | 841mb
Warner Brothers Original U.S. pressing (green label)

from allmusic:
Paranoid was not only Black Sabbath's most popular record (it was a number one smash in the U.K., and "Paranoid" and "Iron Man" both scraped the U.S. charts despite virtually nonexistent radio play), it also stands as one of the greatest and most influential heavy metal albums of all time. Paranoid refined Black Sabbath's signature sound — crushingly loud, minor-key dirges loosely based on heavy blues-rock — and applied it to a newly consistent set of songs with utterly memorable riffs, most of which now rank as all-time metal classics. Where the extended, multi-sectioned songs on the debut sometimes felt like aimless jams, their counterparts on Paranoid have been given focus and direction, lending an epic drama to now-standards like "War Pigs" and "Iron Man" (which sports one of the most immediately identifiable riffs in metal history). The subject matter is unrelentingly, obsessively dark, covering both supernatural/sci-fi horrors and the real-life traumas of death, war, nuclear annihilation, mental illness, drug hallucinations, and narcotic abuse. Yet Sabbath makes it totally convincing, thanks to the crawling, muddled bleakness and bad-trip depression evoked so frighteningly well by their music. Even the qualities that made critics deplore the album (and the group) for years increase the overall effect — the technical simplicity of Ozzy Osbourne's vocals and Tony Iommi's lead guitar vocabulary; the spots when the lyrics sink into melodrama or awkwardness; the lack of subtlety and the infrequent dynamic contrast. Everything adds up to more than the sum of its parts, as though the anxieties behind the music simply demanded that the band achieve catharsis by steamrolling everything in its path, including its own limitations. Monolithic and primally powerful, Paranoid defined the sound and style of heavy metal more than any other record in rock history.

eighth blackbird - strange imaginary animals (2006)

eighth blackbird - strange imaginary animals
Contemporary Classical | 2006 | 71:57 | EAC (individual APEs, no cue, no log) | Front cover | 348 MB

Winner of 2 GRAMMY Awards

* Category 104: Best Chamber Music Performance - strange imaginary animals
* Category 97: Best Producer of the Year, Classical - Judith Sherman

NOW Ensemble re-defines chamber music for the 21st century, fusing "the formal elegance of chamber music with a pop-honed concision and rhythmic vitality." (Time Out New York) Their critically-acclaimed debut album, called "outstanding" by The Washington Post and the recipient of several five-star reviews, is aptly titled Now

Review by Blair Sanderson

At first glance, the album Strange Imaginary Animals may look like a whimsical musical menagerie, perhaps an avant-garde update on Carnival of the Animals; but this 2006 release from Çedille is more intellectually demanding and esoterically puzzling than its improbable title and cover art may suggest. These six colorful works for chamber ensemble are gathered together ("unified" is too rigid a term) around a rather elusive concept -- the imagination -- and each piece forces the listener to think creatively about its possible meanings, however arcane or absurd. Take, for example, Jennifer Higdon's Zaka (2003), a dynamically rhythmic tour de force in which the performance and its reception are influenced by its name and definition:

"za-ka (zô' kô) v. To do the following almost simultaneously and with great speed: zap, sock, race, turn, drop, sprint."

Or consider Gordon Fitzell's Violence (2001), which is a surprisingly delicate and quiet piece that explores the underlying aesthetics of violence, instead of making an overt display of aggression. Things become even more paradoxical with Steven Mackey's humorous Indigenous Instruments (1989), which portends to be new music from a nonexistent society; David M. Gordon's mechanistic yet elastic Friction Systems (2002; revised 2005), which is elucidated in the liner notes by nothing more than an anagrammatic grid; Fitzell's mysterious sound sculpture Evanescence (2005), which was apparently inspired by the four words used to describe it, "violence, metamorphosis, sublimation, evanescence"; and Dennis DeSantis' Strange Imaginary Remix (2006), which resembles a dance mix of electronica snippets. The music in each piece is as technically challenging as the ideas behind them are abstruse, though nothing here is especially hard to listen to, except for Gordon's Friction Systems, which is the album's most brazenly dissonant track. For the most part, these composers write in an accessible postmodern style, with vivid tone colors and brilliant virtuoso parts for the musicians. The engaging contemporary ensemble eighth blackbird -- consisting of pianist Lisa Kaplan, percussionist Matthew Duvall, violinist Matt Albert, cellist Nicholas Photinos, flutist Molly Alicia Barth, and clarinetist Michael J. Maccaferri -- performs the works with vibrant energy and considerable charm and wit, and the recordings are outstanding for their clarity and depth. Taken as a whole, this CD may not draw a wide audience, but it is the kind of album that will appeal to fans of Exquisite Corpses, recreational surrealism, and conceptual art.

Izia - Izia (2009)

Izia - Izia (2009)
Label: Universal | MP3 @ 192 kbps | Time: 45:28 | Size; 62.9 MB
Genre: Pop/Rock

Buffalo - Dead Forever [Limited Edition] (1972)

Buffalo - Dead Forever [Limited Edition] (1972)
EAC | FLAC, IMG+CUE, LOG | 481 Mb | Covers
Hard Rock | 1972 | Australia | Label: Aztec | Catalog: AVSCD010 | RAR 3% Rec | RS

Upon release in 1972, Vertigo Records proclaimed, "Dead Forever is better in quality, production and music-wise than Black Sabbath's Vol. 4." While hyperbolic marketing is nothing new, this statement is largely misguided, unfair to the band, and generally misrepresentative of Buffalo's powers. The mighty Sabbath are their most obvious influence, but for the most part they're better when attempting something other than primal heavy metal. The record opens with a satisfyingly dreamy, otherworldly tone that recalls post-Barrett Pink Floyd (oddly, they don't explore this style further), before making an abrupt and clumsy segue into Sabbath land, sounding like awkward teenagers struggling to emulate their heroes. But Buffalo is more accomplished than that, and they quickly prove it with "Suzy Sunshine," a cloudless blues-rock number that possesses a vocal closely resembling one Ozzy Osbourne -- minus the doom-and-gloom. Guitarist John Baxter's talent becomes apparent here as well, an impression confirmed with his tasteful, Hendrix-inspired intro for "Pay My Dues." This Blues Image cover later features a nice trade-off between the two lead vocalists (yes there are two, yet neither plays an instrument), and during Free's "I'm a Mover" one or both of the vocalists hit high notes that would do any metal fan proud. "Ballad of Irving Fink" is a near-glam boogie rock tune with more fine vocalizing, and "Bean Stew" finds the group at the crossroads of late-'60s garage and early-'70s hard rock. A definite highlight. "Forrest Rain" is another detour, this one a moody, melancholy piece with a light psychedelic soundtrack and an Ozzy-like lyrical honesty. But the whole album seems like a warm-up when the awesome title track appears, a wobble-inducing Black Sabbath homage where the unit beams despite the morbid subject manner (led by Baxter, who really gives Tony Iommi a run for his money), and appears worthy of the extravagant publicity. by Bart Bealmear

"Greatest Hits" is the second greatest hits album by Scandinavian eurodance group AQUA, scheduled to be released in Denmark and Sweden June 15, 2009. Although it is their second greatest hits album, it is the first one to be released in the groups native countries. On May 27, the track list was confirmed. It includes digitally remastered versions of 16 old songs and three new songs: "Back to the 80's", "My Mamma Said", and "Live Fast - Die Young". Danish Albums Chart #1.
Singles on this album:

"Back to the 80's" - the lead single of the Greatest Hits album, released on May 25. It is AQUA's first single in nine years. As most Danish acts, it was released as a digital download only. On May 25, it premiered on Danish radios on Radio 100FM. Back to the 80's reached number one in Denmark knocking the Eurovision Song Contest winner Alexander Rybak off the top spot. Even though neither of the two other new songs have been released as official singles, both songs have featured on the Danish Singles Chart. My Mamma Said peaked at #11 and Live Fast - Die Young as #24.

Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell (25th Anniversary Edition, 2001)

Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell (25th Anniversary Edition, 2001)
Rock | MP3 320 kbps/48 khz | Covers | 153 Mb

On y trouve notamment le titre Paradise by the Dashboard Light.

Rush - Fly By Night [SHM-CD]

Rush - Fly By Night [SHM-CD]
EAC | FLAC-CUE-LOG | 220mb RAR'D - 3% Recovery | RS Links
All Scans Included | Original Release 1975 - This Release 2009

Here's the first album featuring Neil Peart on drums and lyrics. While their first release, "Rush," is a great, straight ahead rocker, "Fly By Night" moves the band into the more cerebral, progressive, power rock vein that would characterize their 70's period. From the opening sonic barrage of "Anthem" to the melodic acoustic chords of "In The End"

Being Rush's second album, the first in 1975, also the first with drummer Neil Peart, the changes are immediately evident and not just in the now kick-ass drumming. Neil's lyrics are also leaps and bounds beyond what Geddy and Alex were writing on the first album, and the songs are growing better and more complex.

In a way, this album could almost be called Rush's first album. Drummer John Rutsey, who played on the band's self-titled debut the previous year, quit the band shortly after its release (due to problems with diabetes). The band hastily held auditions for a new drummer and Neil Peart came into the picture. Bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson found writing lyrics a bore (and it shows on that first disc), so when Peart expressed interest in doing it, they gladly handed the pen and paper to him. The result was a notable improvement in the lyrics.

Black Sabbath - Sabotage (1975, US 1st Press, WB 2822-2)

Years of constant touring, alcoholism, and drug abuse finally began to affect Black Sabbath around the time of their sixth release, 1975's Sabotage. While it's not a bad album (in fact, it's one of their most underrated), you can sense that the magical chemistry that made such albums as Paranoid and Vol. 4 so special was beginning to disintegrate. But guitarist Tony Iommi again comes equipped with an arsenal of sturdy, ultra-heavy riffs, as evidenced by the raucous album opener, "Hole in the Sky," as well as the drug-induced anthem "Symptom of the Universe" -- both tracks coming as close to garage rock as Sabbath ever got. But the album's biggest surprise is the melodic, synth-laced "Am I Going Insane (Radio)," which is more akin to '70s power pop than to the band's patented doom metal (although the lyrics are what you'd expect -- detailing a person's downward spiral into dementia). Although often overlooked, Sabotage remains an interesting and challenging release.

"New Time, New 'Tet", Benny Golson's first new album in several years and already climbing the charts, features a modern version of one of his favorite forms, the sextet -- or as he calls it, the 'jazztet'. This CD is his first album since 2004's "Terminal 1" which followed his appearance in the Steven Spielberg's movie "The Terminal". Joining with the legendary saxophonist to form the group and also help bring back his signature 'three horn' sound are trombonist Steve Davis and trumpeter Eddie Henderson, who has the difficult task of emulating long-time Golson collaborator Art Farmer on trumpet and lugelhorn. Filling out the sextet are pianist Mike LaDonne, bassist Buster Williams, and percussionist Carl Allen. The ten tracks include some of Golson's own classic pieces, such as "Whisper Not," here given the added delight of an Al Jarreau vocal, and some newer compositions too. "Uptown Afterburn" is a tune that would have been completely at home in the bebop era of Golson's younger days. Also on board are pieces from other jazz legends, including Sonny Rollins' classic, "Airegin" and "Epistrophy", an outstanding and irresistible rendition that composer Thelonious Monk would have loved. Golson's sax is especially nice here with his breathy style on full display. Golson draws from some eclectic source material, including an elegant but soulful cover of El DeBarge's "Love Me in a Special Way," which features particularly warm solo statements from the leader and Davis."It's interesting to note that Golson has also included a couple of tracks that feature his take on classical music. Good stuff". - Geezmusicclub "New Times New 'Tet" is an album with an implied 'suite', in which Benny Golson joins new compositions inspired by Giuseppi Verdi and Frederic Chopin to a standard jazz repertoire. In fact "his arrangements morph the music of Verdi into the jazz waltz "Verdi's Voice", and Chopin's ballad "L'adieau" into a showcase for Henderson's muted trumpet". - J.B.Spins The artistic result is philosophical musing that erupts into a street party. The album is a uniquely engaging suite of songs that give each member of this juggernaut sextet room to blow. "We've got some serious bop going on here, from new originals to covers of warhorses like Thelonious Monk's "Epistrophy" and Sonny Rollins's "Airegin" to jazz arrangements of pieces by Chopin and Verdi. It's true that Golson, who turns 80 this month, is looking back 50 years with this sextet, but he's also still looking ahead"- Boston Globe The album debuts at # 8 of Billboard Top Jazz Albums.

Benny Golson 1929. január 25-én született a Pennsylvania állambeli Philadelphiában, Egyesült Államok. Elsősorban zeneszerzői tevékenysége ismert, a "Blues March", a “Killer Joe", a "Whisper Not" és az "I Remember Clifford" örökzöld standardok lettek.
